United Way announces grant opportunities
The United Way of Central Massachusetts (UWCM) has begun its annual grant cycle for education-related programs.
The organization distributed more than $5.4 million into Worcester and 29 surrounding towns last year, Heidi Paluk, vice president of External Affairs at UWCM, said. Approximately $2 million of that was distributed through two-year Creating Community Change grant, with approximately $300,000 being distributed through Women’s initiative grants. Through the organization’s three major grant programs, 62 programs at 40 different agencies were funded last year, said Paluk.
The Women’s Initiative focuses on supporting the development of confident and safe girls, according to UWCM. Programs that receive funding must have a primary goal to prevent and reduce violence in the lives of girls ages 10 to 14 within Central Massachusetts.
The Creating Community Change focuses on education for all children in Central Massachusetts and funds programs that help students further their education and prepare them for college and careers.
Agencies interested in applying for funding may attend pre-proposal information sessions to learn more about guidelines and instructions for the online application process. The Women’s Initiative information session will be held at the Seven Hills Foundation on Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. while the Creating Community Change session will be held at the UWCM offices on Dec. 19 at 9 a.m.
