Whitinsville-based UniBank said it finished the second quarter with assets of $1 billion, putting it in the company of few other Central Massachusetts banks.
The eight-branch mutual bank said it has experienced growth over the last two years, including the opening of a Worcester loan office.
UniBank finished 2009 with nearly $866 million in assets.
Other Central Mass.-based banks with assets in the $1 billion neighborhood include Avidia Bank of Hudson, Commerce Bank & Trust Co. of Worcester and Middlesex Savings Bank of Natick, which finished 2009 with more than $3 billion in assets.
