The unemployment rate in Massachusetts in March fell to 3.5%, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The rate dropped 0.2% points from the revised February estimate of 3.7%.
The March rate for Massachusetts matches the national rate of 3.5%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, according to a Friday press release from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
Employment in Massachusetts now totals 3,758,300, which is a significant increase over the April 2020 low of 696,700 jobs in the state due to the pandemic.
Estimates by the BLS show Massachusetts gained 16,300 jobs in March, which comes on the heels of 9,200 jobs in February, according to a press release. The largest private sector gains came in leisure and hospitality, education and health services, and construction.
BLS estimates that Massachusetts gained 104,000 jobs from March of 2022 to March 2023.
