UMass Raising Financial Aid Spending

The University of Massachusetts system is increasing its financial aid spending to $130.5 million.

The university's spending on financial aid has risen 267 percent over the past eight years, from $35.6 million.

UMass said 61 percent of its in-state undergraduate students are getting some need-based financial aid this year. About 19 percent of the total financial aid comes from the university's funds. The average total cost of attending UMass is $22,623 for in-state students.
