Tutor Perini Wins $204M JFK Runway Project

The Tutor Perini Corp. of Framingham has been awarded a $204 million contract to lengthen and widen a runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The project is part of a JFK delay reduction program and calls for the reconstruction of the 13R-31L runway, a 14,572-foot-long runway that handles about one third of the airport's traffic annually. The project will widen the runway from 150 feet to 200 feet.

Increased taxiway access, wider taxiway intersections and the installation of new lighting and electrical infrastructure are also part of the overhaul.

The construction firm changed its name to Tutor Perini from Perini Corp. after it merged with Tutor-Sabila Corp. last summer. The firm was awarded the contract by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
