Tooth hurt? Go online

More than half of the subscribers to Aetna's health information Web sites used it to check out information on dental health, according to a study by the Columbia University Center for Advanced Information Management. About 55 percent of those surveyed said they uses Aetna's site to learn more about dental health, with women comprising two-thirds of that group. The 309-person study also found that, in general, 95 percent of people use the Internet to search for medical information. David Albert, a dentist affiliated with Columbia University, said the Internet has become one of the most important places for the public to find health information and it creates an opportunity for businesses in health-related fields to reach out and educate that audience.
