Worcester-based ThermoEnergy Corp. says it’s had success with tests of a system to recover ammonia from biogas plants.
Dairy and swine farms could use the technology to make the anaerobic processing of manure into fuel more cost-effective. ThermoEnergy said there are already about 170 of the anaerobic digester plants in operation in the U.S., and there are more than 8,000 farms with the potential to build such plants.
ThermoEnergy said its system could make the plants more attractive by recycling their wastewater and extracting chemicals for fertilizer and other uses.
The company said it sees the agricultural biogas industry as “a significant growth market.”
