The state’s golf industry grew by 13.9 percent between 2000 and 2006, according to a new study by the Alliance of Massachusetts Golf Organizations.
The total economic impact of the sport rose from $2.5 billion in 2000 to $2.8 billion in 2006. The industry added 770 jobs over that time, reaching a total of 29,630, and salaries increased 19 percent.
Golf facility operations accounted for $649 million in direct spending and nearly $1.3 billion in total economic output, while golf supplies generated $342 million in direct spending and $749 million in total output.
Golf also accounted for more than $67.7 million in charitable giving in 2006.
