Survey Finds Jobs Most Likely To Lead To Weight Gain

Administrative assistants and engineers are the most likely professions to lead to weight gain on the job, according to a survey by CareerBuilder.

The survey, which queried nearly 3,600 full-time workers, found that 55 percent consider themselves to be overweight, and 41 percent said they have gained weight at their jobs.

Professions that involve high stress and long hours behind a desk had a higher chance of leading to weight gain. Administrative assistants reported the highest occurrence of weight gain, with 69 percent saying they had gained weight. Engineers took second place at 56 percent. And teachers, nurses and information technology managers tied for third place at 51 percent.

"Weight gain at work often comes from a combination of poor eating habits when you're on the go and not being able to fit a workout into a busy schedule," said Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder. "Two in five workers don't exercise on a regular basis and one in 10 (doesn't) exercise at all."
