Everyone needs support when they lose their job or when they decide to change careers. A new job club in Acton aims to do just that.
The Job Club, run by Mobius Business Coach Karen Burke in conjunction with the Acton-based Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce, offers free, twice monthly meetings at the Acton Public Library. The club meets the first and third Thursday of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Acton Public Library at 486 Main St. Its next meeting is Thursday, Aug. 20.
"I wanted to create a group for career transition professionals where they could share their knowledge, skills, and create a positive group that supports members," Burke said. At the same time, the group gives members accountability to others about taking steps that move them toward their job transition, she said.
The first half of the meeting allows job seekers and those considering a career change to talk briefly about the positive steps they've taken in the prior two weeks. The second half of the meeting features a speaker covering such topics as financial planning while you're out of work, how to network or how to plan for tough interview questions.
The group has grown from just a couple of people in March when it started to an average attendance of 20 or so people, and a membership of about 50.
While the meetings are free, registration is requested. Click here for more information or call the chamber at 978-263-0010.
