TJX Reports Strong Q2 Growth

Discount retailer TJX Cos. Inc. of Framingham reported a $262 million profit for the second quarter of sales of $4.7 billion.

For the same period a year ago, the company made a profit of $337 million on sales of $4.6 billion.

The quarter also saw the company increase its operating income from $212 million last year to $262 million. The company ended the second quarter of 2008 with $518 million in cash and upped that total to $1.4 billion this year.

TJX operates T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, A.J. Wright and other discount retail stores.
