Sudbury chocolate maker tops gourmet food awards

Goodnow Farms, a Sudbury chocolate maker, swept the dark chocolate category for a national gourmet food awards.

Goodnow was named by the Specialty Food Association as having the three best dark chocolates, and second-best hot beverage for its hot cocoa, it announced this month. Its rye whiskey dark chocolate was the best new chocolate candy and second-best overall.

Goodnow won six awards in all, taking what the company says is the first chocolate maker to win gold, silver and bronze from the Specialty Food Association's Sofi awards.

The company was launched in 2016 by couple Monica and Tom Rogan, who run operations out of a more than two-century-old farm off Goodnow Road in Sudbury. Its chocolate is sourced from Mexico and Central and South America.

It has found quick success in its short history, also winning in the International Chocolate Awards, Academy of Chocolate, Good Food Awards and the Northwest Chocolate Festival.

Goodnow teamed up with Trillium Brewing, a popular craft brewer, in February for a limited-edition chocolate stout and chocolate bar made with Trillium's imperial milk stout.

Goodnow is set to expand to the Boston Public Market, where it will begin staffing a booth on June 1. Its chocolate is available throughout much of Massachusetts and a few locations in New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
