Westminster beermaker Wachusett Brewing Co. will operate a taproom in the new Worcester Public Market set to open this fall.

The public market and the taproom will be on the first floor of developer Allen Fletcher's $21-million Harding Green project. The upper floors of the development will be called the Kelley Square Lofts, comprised of 48 market-rate apartments.

Wachusett Brewing will occupy a 3,000-square foot anchor space in Worcester Public Market, serving both people in the food court and outside in seating next to Kelley Square.

“We’ve always considered Worcester our home city since our first delivery there in 1994,” said Wachusett President Christian McMahan, in a press release. “We love the concept of the public market and look forward to being a big part of the community moving forward.”

Wachusett operates another taproom at its Westminster headquarters, called The Brew Yard. The company is the 43rd largest craft brewery in the U.S., according to the trade group Brewers Association.

"This fits our concept perfectly,” said Fletcher, in a press release. “We could not be more delighted.”

Fletcher envisions the market as a multi-vendor, food-oriented space in the European tradition, featuring retail food establishments such as fresh produce, pasta and seafood. The grand opening is planned for early fall.
