Another Worcester-based university has been impacted by the federal government’s revocation of international student visas, as Clark University has said 12 students at the school have seen their permission to reside and study in the United States pulled.

“To all who have come to Clark from around the world – students, faculty, and staff – know that you are welcome and appreciated, and that we are here to support you,” Clark President David Fithian wrote in a message published by the university on Thursday.

Coming on the heels of a Thursday internal memo from Worcester Polytechnic Institute President Grace Wang obtained by WBJ, which said four students had had their visas revoked, Clark University has seen a dozen students at the school suffer the same fate, according to Fithian’s message.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette first reported the news of the Clark visa revocations.

Fithian’s letter states, similar to the situation at WPI, the school received no notification or explanation of the President Donald Trump Administration's actions, saying the school discovered the revocations through its monitoring of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System database.

“At this point, we have confirmed that federal authorities have revoked the visas and/or terminated their record in SEVIS of 12 of our international students,” Fithian wrote.

Fithian’s letter states the school is working with the students to ensure they obtain legal representation, understand their legal rights, and to establish plans to allow them to continue their studies.

Clark has joined 85 other higher education institutions and organizations in signing onto an amicus brief in American Association of University Professors v. Rubio,, a federal case filed in Massachusetts challenging the federal government’s revocations of visas and detention of noncitizen students and university faculty.

“Our collective call is for an injunction pending resolution of the legal challenge by the American Association of University Professors and several of its chapters, as well as the Middle East Studies Association,” Fithian wrote.

More than 300 students across the country have been impacted by visa revocations, according to MSNBC

Earlier on Thursday, WBJ made a request to the U.S. Department of State for the reasons for the revocation of the WPI visas. The State Department has yet to respond.
