Rapscallion Brewery, which has rented an old barn building on a farm in Sturbridge since 2013, has completed its long search for a permanent space where it can begin canning and distributing its beer.
Rapscallion is due to move to Spencer by the end of the year.
The brewery will leave the space it has leased at Hyland Orchard at 195 Arnold Road in Sturbridge and move into a 3,900-square-foot industrial space at 8 Meadow Road in Spencer. It will take up a space that was formerly FPM Fabrication & Production Machinery and Gobi's Auto Service.
"We've been looking for a very long time," said Cedric Daniel, the co-proprietor of Rapscallion and part of the ownership group that is the fourth to own the brewery. Rapscallion also owns restaurants in Acton and Concord.
While Rapscallion has served its beer at those restaurants and sold kegs to a few other places, it hasn't before been able to can its beer or distribute it more widely. Rapscallion has distribution partnerships with two companies and plans to distribute across Central and Eastern Massachusetts, Daniel said.
Rapscallion wanted to stay close to its customer base around Sturbridge and may retain a retail presence there, Daniel said. The Spencer space will be the first the Rapscallion owns, after leasing in Sturbridge and contracting to brew its beer at locations in Lowell and Holyoke.
"We've been sort of nomadic," Daniel said.
Rapscallion sold 32-ounce crowlers out of its Sturbridge space but didn't have the layout that let it set up a canning process.
The brewery's two resident cats are planned to join Rapscallion on the move, as are a rotation of food trucks, but another unique attribute won't: the disc golf course. Daniel said ownership group was hoping to find a place to allow for disc golf, but couldn't. The Spencer location will have lots of room for outdoor seating, he said.
