State Unemployment Drops Slightly

The largest month-over-month job gain in 17 years helped push down the state's unemployment rate last month, the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said.

The state unemployment rate dropped from 9.3 to 9.2 percent in April, after the state's economy created 19,100 new jobs. The state was estimated to have about 3.2 million jobs last month.

The largest job gains were in the professional, scientific and business services sector, followed by construction. Since the beginning of the year 29,400 jobs have been created, 28,200 of which are in the private sector.
