State electric vehicle rebates expanded to commercial fleets

The Massachusetts Offers Rebates for Electric Vehicles program will now include commercial and nonprofit fleets, the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration announced on Thursday, expanding what Baker said was an already successful program.

“The expansion of this program to include commercial fleets continues the commonwealth’s efforts to expand electric vehicle adoption and the electrification of the transportation sector, which is vital to achieving our target of net zero emissions by 2050,” Baker said in a press release.

Commercial and nonprofit fleets were eligible for rebates through the MOR-EV program starting Thursday, according to the announcement. Battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles which cost up to $50,000 will be eligible for up to a $2,500 rebate. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with an all-electric range of 25 miles or greater, which cost up to $50,000, will be eligible for up to a $1,500 rebate.

The rebate program does not apply to public purchases, like those made for municipalities or the state. Purchases made before Thursday are also not eligible.

Massachusetts has allocated more than $31 million toward incentivizing the purchase of 15,000 electric vehicles, according to the announcement. The investment has reportedly reduced the state’s greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 39,000 metric tons annual.

More details about the program are available online.
