Worcester County recorded 29 new coronavirus cases and three deaths Thursday

Worcester County recorded 29 new coronavirus cases and three fatalities on Thursday, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The new cases in the county increase the total to 12,236 since the pandemic began. Throughout the state, there were 160 confirmed and 66 probable new coronavirus cases adding to the 107,845 total.

New fatalities in the state increased by 24 confirmed coronavirus related deaths and one probable bringing the total death toll to 7,963. Worcester County’s new fatalities bring the total tally to 917 deaths. 

DPH also reported 11,226 newly administered coronavirus tests on Thursday.

The City of Worcester reported 57 new coronavirus cases, adding to the 5,172 overall since the pandemic began. The city’s next coronavirus update will be Thursday, July 2.

 

UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reported 38 inpatient cases and 14 in the ICU. In total the hospitals have had 333 coronavirus-related fatalities during the pandemic, and 362 employees have tested positive. 

Umass Memorial Health conducted 1,600 tests over the span of two days last week during the state's free pop-up testing for those who attended large gatherings. The tests concluded in a 2.7% positivity rate. 

MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and Natick reported 19 suspected and confirmed cases, and Milford Regional Medical Center reported 14, according to DPH. In total the hospitals reported two inpatients in the ICU. Other Central Massachusetts hospitals such as Heywood Hospital, and Health Alliance in Leominster reported 16 suspected and confirmed cases and six in intensive care. 

Nationally, there have been more than 2.4 million cases and roughly 124,415 fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there have been more than 9.6 million coronavirus cases and 489,922 deaths.
