The owner of Shrewsbury commercial cleaning company Unic Pro Inc. has been named the Massachusetts Woman Small Business Owner of the year by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the year.
The company, owned by Lilian Radke, earned the recognition for its success and rapid growth in sales and job creation, the SBA said.
The company is growing at a rate of about 45 percent in annual sales and reports low employee turnover and high client retention rates, according to the SBA.
In a statement, SBA Massachusetts District Director Robert Nelson said Radke followed the SBA’s blueprint for growth.
“She received counseling that helped her understand and open new markets; got approved for a working capital loan to create new jobs; and won government contracts that strengthened her company’s long-term financial health,” Nelson said. “We are all very excited to recognize her growth and accomplishments!"
As a result of counseling and certifications, Radke and Unic Pro were awarded new government accounts and began serving federal agencies including the Food and Drug Administration, Coast Guard, Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Army.
According to the SBA, Radke, challenged with finding debt capital, coordinated with an SBA lender to secure a loan to consolidate the company’s debt and secure a line of credit for $300,000 to support the company’s growth.
“It is impossible to run a successful company without surrounding yourself with great people and resources,” Radke said in a statement, adding that programs with the SBA and other groups helped her become a better leader. “Through these programs, I learned to implement a mission statement and core values that prepared me to grow my business and hire great people.”
