Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury has named Benjamin Horgan its next head of school, to take over the role from Alex Zequeira on July 1.
Horgan is a 2005 graduate of Saint John’s and presently serves as foundation director of Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools in Baltimore, according to a Monday press release from the Shrewsbury all-boys day school.

Zequeira has been headmaster at the school since 2016. His impending departure from the school was announced by the school in May.
“I am truly humbled to return home to Saint John’s and serve as its next head of school. I am blessed to have experienced firsthand the transformational impact of a Saint John’s education. The Xaverian Brothers, faculty, and staff I had as a student inspired me to devote my life to Catholic education and helped me form a strong foundation of faith, service, and leadership that I have carried with me throughout my life,” Horgan said in the press release.
Horgan holds a bachelor’s degree from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, a master’s degree in theological studies from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, and a doctorate in education from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Saint John’s is a grade seven through 12 school for boys founded in 1898. Enrollment was 916 as of Oct. 1, according to the school. Annual tuition is $17,850., according to data provided to the WBJ Research Department.
