Worcester craft beer creator Redemption Rock Brewing has partnered with nonprofit Casita Cultura Latina to release a new beer for Día De Los Muertos, the holiday typically held Nov. 1 and 2 to remember loved ones who’ve passed away.

The beer, called Espíritu - Spanish for spirit – is a pale ale with prickly pear and coconut flavors, according to a Mondary press release from the brewer.

“Día De Los Muertos is a celebration of life as much as it is about remembrance, and we wanted both ideas to be represented in this beer,” Joy Murrieta and Raquel Castro of Casita Cultura Latina said in the press release. The nonprofit focuses on elevating the Latino community in Worcester.

The Espíritu label artwork was created by Casita resident artist Germán Chiriboga. The flavor profile of the beer, which the brewer described as rich, tropical, dry, and crisp, is meant to be exciting and complex, like Día De Los Muertos.

“The biggest concepts we focused on were vibrance and unity, which is why we incorporated two ingredients that are found across Latin America, and gave the beer its bright pink hue,” Greg Carlson, head brewer at Redemption Rock, said in the press release. “The beer simply looks and tastes like a celebration, and we hope it properly honors the work of Casita and the spirit of the Día De Los Muertos festival.”

A portion of the sales from the beer will be donated to Casita Cultura Latina Día De Los Muertos festival, a multi-day event running from Oct. 25 to Nov. 2. The beer is now available at Redemption Rock, on tap and in to-go four packs.
