Raytheon Selects California For New Tech Center

Waltham-based defense contractor Raytheon, which has major operations in Central Massachusetts, announced this morning that it plans to site its new public safety regional technology center in Downey, Calif.

The facility will total 27,000 square feet and will house 150 employees. It is expected to be operational in the next three months.

The center will serve as the focus of Raytheon's civil communications business in the western United States.

The announcement of the center follows news in January that Raytheon planned to establish a center for public safety network systems at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). The mission of the UCLA partnership is to bring together academia, industry and public safety agencies to provide technical leadership. Raytheon has pledged $1 million over a three-year period to establish the academic center.
