Quiet Logistics opens 355,000sf Devens expansion

Photo/Grant Welker Brian Lemerise, the president of Quiet Logistics, said competition from Amazon and Walmart has forced other retailers to manage higher order volumes.

Quiet Logistics, a Devens company shipping products for well-known brands, has expanded an already sprawling operation with a new 355,000-square-foot fulfillment center.

The new building, which adds another 150 full-time jobs to the company, adds to what had already been two massive facilities in Devens totaling around 500,000 square feet. The new space is designed to handle the company's ongoing and anticipated growth, Quiet Logistics said Tuesday.

"Retailers today are under tremendous pressure to manage higher order volumes and shifting consumer expectations due to fierce competition from big e-commerce players like Amazon and Walmart," said Brian Lemerise, the president of Quiet Logistics.

Quiet Logistics ships items for retailers like Away, Bonobos, Bombfell, Tuft & Needle and Thursday Boot Co., using hundreds of programmed robots to pick up items and deliver them to workers to be packaged and sent off.

Quiet Logistics, which was founded in 2009, was a 40-employee operation when it moved from Andover seeking more space in 2011. Since then, the company has grown to more than 600 workers, a number ballooning each holiday season to 1,300.

The company shipped 22 million packages in 2016.
