Devens distributor Quiet Logistics has added robots to its warehouse holiday workforce this year in a partnership with Locus Robotics, the companies announced Tuesday.
In addition to its 550 seasonal hires to handle the shipping load, Quiet will be using multi-fulfillment robots to get out orders for e-commerce companies such as Zara, Bonobos and Bluefly. Working within the existing infrastructure, the robotic systems reduce costs and increase productivity while giving improved order accuracy and time to ship, according to Andover-based Locus.
This is not the first time Quiet Logistics has used robots, previously making use of Kiva robots, but the new robots offer greater flexibility and affordability, according to Quiet. Annually, Quiet ships over $1 billion in e-commerce orders and plans to transition to a fully automated Devens warehouse by the end of the year.
