Prices Rise 0.4 Percent In April

The U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics rose 0.4 percent in April on a seasonally adjusted basis, largely due a 3.3 percent increase in the price of gasoline.

The index has been rising at a similar pace since December, and it's seen a total increase of 3.2 percent over the past year. Gas prices rose 33.1 percent over the year.

Excluding food and energy, the index rose 0.2 percent over the month and 1.3 percent over the year.
