Pike named clean energy director

Stephen Pike can drop “interim” from his job title. The Baker administration on Tuesday named the former corporate attorney, Yale graduate and Haverhill resident as executive director of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

Pike is charged with fostering the growth of the clean energy economy at a time when proponents of steep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions are worried that President-elect Donald Trump will retreat on renewable energy commitments.

Pike joined the center as general counsel in 2013 and was named interim director in September 2015. He practiced corporate law for 15 years in Boston, including stints at Davis, Malm & D’Agostine and at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge. In the 1990s, during Republican Gov. William Weld’s administration, Pike worked at the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and as legislative director for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
