PawSox, Worcester officials take in Railers game

The vacant Wyman Gordon property near Kelley Square is eyed as a possible site for a new PawSox ballpark.
As City of Worcester is in talks with Pawtucket Red Sox officials about a possible relocation to Central Massachusetts, team officials were spotted with city and business officials at a Worcester Railers game Tuesday morning.
City Manager Ed Augustus, City Solicitor David Moore, Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tim Murray, PawSox GM Dan Rea and CFO Joe Goldberg were spotted in private suites with Railers Owner Cliff Rucker, according to the Augustus' office and sources.
The PawSox meeting at the morning game against the Brampton Beast comes a day after Murray published a lengthy post on his blog about courting the PawSox to the city and redeveloping large portions of the Canal District and the vacant 22-acre Wyman-Gordon site eyed for a new ballpark.
Murray wrote the talks center around developing a plan to improve the Canal District, Vernon Hill, Green Island, Main South and lower Chandler and Madison Street neighborhoods.
The team is still talking with Pawtucket and Rhode Island on a new stadium deal to keep the team south of the Massachusetts border, but the Provide Journal reported that Rhode Island House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello said in October he wants to renegotiate a deal to lessen public funding for a proposed $83 million ballpark to replace the 75-year-old McCoy Stadium.
That proposal included using $38 million in public money.
Murray, Augustus and PawSox officials have said little regarding negotiations, but the city recently hired two high-profile consultants, economist Andrew Zimbalist and transportation and infrastructure specialist Jeffrey Mullan.
