Gov. Deval Patrick plans to join Senate President Therese Murray in Ireland next week, where two of Beacon Hill’s three most powerful figures plan to try to drum up business for Massachusetts companies.
According to a Patrick aide, the governor will travel with two aides to Ireland next Wednesday and return on Friday afternoon.
While in Ireland, Patrick plans to speak at an e-health conference and a digital health and life sciences trade summit and meet with Ireland’s prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and trade, as well as Irish business officials whose companies have a presence in Massachusetts.
Murray launched her 10-day trip Thursday, and according to her schedule spoke at the northwest Health Innovation Corridor Launch in Derry today and met with the Derry City Council. She planned events in Donegal today.
A Murray aide said she will not use any state funds to pay for her trip, which will have her in Dublin and Belfast during next week's Senate budget release but back in time for budget debate that begins on Wednesday, May 22.
"This trade mission is a great opportunity for us to strengthen our international connections, expand opportunities for Massachusetts companies and continue to promote the commonwealth as a portal for health care, technology and life sciences in the United States,” a statement from Murray said.
