Marlborough Recognized As Life Sciences Hub

The City of Marlborough has been recognized as a leading incubator of mature life science companies by the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio), the Marlborough Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) announced.

As a result, MassBio will host a life sciences open house in the city in late summer or early fall, which will be organized by MassBio with MEDC. MEDC said the event will be a networking opportunity for both members of MassBio and nonmembers and to introduce them to the organization's activities and to Marlborough's opportunities for the sector.

The news follows MEDC's participation in the BIO International Convention in Chicago last month. MEDC was there on behalf of the city and joined other municipalities representing the state in the Lifecycle Massachusetts Pavilion.

"The City of Marlborough has clearly become a key biotechnology hub in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. We're seeing some great life sciences and biotechnology companies making Marlborough their home," MassBio President and CEO Robert Coghlin said in a statement.

MEDC pointed to the last year's news that Quest Diagnostics will open a laboratory complex in the city and that Boston Scientific will relocate its headquarters to Malrborough from Natick.

In December, MassBio upgraded Marlborough to its highest rating of Platinum BioReady Community, recognizing the city's commitment to foster and host biotechnology companies.
