Outlook Flat For Small Businesses

The outlook for small businesses waned slightly in June, according to the National Federation of Independent Businesses' (NFIB) monthly index.

The NFIB's Small-Business Optimism Index fell by one tenth of a point in June, landing at 90.8.

While some sub-indices grew, including the number of businesses that plan to increase employment, a key measure of the number of businesses that expect the economy to improve fell by 11 percent.

Fifteen percent of those surveyed - a 3-point increase over May - reported unfilled job openings. Only 3 percent cited financing as their number one business problem.

The NFIB's index is based on a survey of 766 randomly sampled members.
