More than 244,000 people visited Old Sturbridge Village in 2009, and compared to the prior year, donations to the living museum increased by 25 percent to $1.7 million.
The nonprofit museum, which depicts life in 1830s New England, said field trip visits increased for the first time since 2001. In all, 64,800 people visited the museum as part of school field trips.
Museum management said an expense reduction plan put in place last year and a willingness to change its offerings helped cut expenses by $800,000 during the year. It ended the year without a deficit for the first time in 10 years.
