Old Sturbridge Village announced on Monday it has named Jasmin Rivas to fill a new position at the living museum: director of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
“We believe that by incorporating this new position, we can further support DEIA strategies and implementation for long term transformation at the museum," said James Donahue, president of OSV, in a statement.
Rivas grew up in Southbridge and graduated from Worcester State University. She also holds a master's degree in creative writing from Bay Path University in Longmeadow.
Rivas has had a varied career, including time spent as a reporter with the Southbridge Evening news, working as a victim/witness advocate and forensic interviewer with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, and as a family liaison and district coordinator in Southbridge Public Schools.
“I want to help others understand that creating diversity, equity, inclusion and access enriches us all. That we are better when we share spaces and opportunities with others who are different than ourselves,” Rivas said in a statement. “I also hope that at the end of the day, we learn that we really aren’t that different after all.”
Congratulations Jasmin go forward.
