Nursing Home Goes With Paperless Pharmacy Supplier

The Knollwood Nursing Center at Briarwood in Worcester has contracted with a new pharmacy provider that will equip the center with computer software and hardware designed to keep drug supplies safe.

Illinois-based Millennium Pharmacy Systems Inc. will install programs and systems that will automate the center's medication management practices. Millennium will also supply the facility with small-dose supplies of drugs and an on-site automated dispensing system.

The center said the system will allow nurses to spend more time with residents while helping to ensure safe administration of medications and control of waste.

Traditional pharmacy services typically include 30-day supplies that are managed manually by nurses. Under Millennium's system, the center will keep a three- or four-day supply managed by a software system that eliminates paper medication and treatment records.
