New UMass Prez

The University of Massachusetts system has named Robert L. Caret as its next president.

Caret is currently the president of Towson University in Maryland.

UMass President Jack M. Wilson will step down from his post on June 30.

Caret has been president of Towson since 2003, and he also worked as a faculty member and executive vice president there earlier in his career, before becoming president of San Jose State University in 1995. He has a bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics from Suffolk University and a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of New Hampshire.

The WBJ spoke with Wilson last month.
