The Federal Emergency Management Agency is reimbursing $1.6 million to Milford Regional Medical Center for the additional costs of operating safely and handling increased patient loads during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Thursday announcement.

The federal funding is being released to the Milford hospital as part of FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program.

Through the program reimbursements will be made to cover the costs of a variety of COVID-19 response measures taken between January and June 2020.

The COVID-19 expenses covered include: purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE), testing for front-line healthcare workers, construction of temporary facilities, equipment for triage, and dissemination of information to the public.

FEMA has provided almost $857 million in Public Assistance grants to Massachusetts to reimburse the Commonwealth for pandemic-related expenses to date.

“Providing resources for our partners on the front lines of the pandemic fight is critical to their success, and our success as a nation,” said Lori Ehrlich, FEMA's Region 1 regional administrator, in a written press release.
