Mass. Business Confidence Hits A High Note

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index hit 55.3 in October, a 7.7-point increase and a return to pre-recession levels.

The score is the index's highest since August 2008 and is based "on a less negative and probably more realistic assessment" of business conditions and the national economy, AIM said.

Business owners surveyed by AIM for the index said they expect significant improvements for the business climate generally over the next six months.

The index is based on a 100-point scale. A score of 50 is considered neutral. A score above 50 represents an optimistic outlook on the part of employers.

The 7.7-point jump was the largest month-to-month increase in the 19-year history of the index. The index reached its all-time low of 33.3 in February 2009.
