Marlborough's IQuum Gets FDA Approval

Marlborough testing company IQuum has received regulatory approval to market its flu testing device in the United States.
The company's Liat Influenza Assay and Liat Analyzer allows doctors and health care staff to test and detect the flu in as little as 20 minutes, according to IQuum.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration approved the sale and marketing of the product. It has already received clearance in Europe.
The flu impacts 5 to 20 percent of Americans annually, resulting in 200,000 hospital visits and 49,000 deaths a year, according to IQuum.
The testing system, which requires a biological sample that is placed into IQuum's device, is meant to be used by non-specialized personnel, IQuum said.
