Maine Trucker Fined For Auburn-Charlton Spill

A Maine-based transportation company has paid a $2,875 fine and has been ordered to perform an environmental project after one of its trucks spilled diesel fuel between Auburn and Charlton.

According to the state Department of Environmental Protection , Pottle's Transportation Inc. of Maine spilled about 30 gallons of diesel from one of its trucks along Route 20 between Auburn and Charlton. The company didn't notify DEP of the spill until the next day. The state requires that spills be reported to DEP within two hours.

In addition to the fine, the company will install computers in all of its trucks, publish an article discussing the spill as an "industry learning experience" and will distribute notification stickers outlining what to do in the event of a spill to all its drivers.

The Pottle's spill occurred in September 2006.
