Smokestack Roasters, a coffee shop and roaster in Lunenburg, has been approved for a $48,000 loan from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp.
Jaclynn and Barry Nicoll had been roasting coffee in their home for over three years. They recently decided to scale up their business and open a coffee shop with coffee roasting on site. The loan was used to fund startup costs and provide working capital to open the coffee shop on Massachusetts Avenue in Lunenburg.
The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. provides loans to small businesses of up to $100,000 for working capital, equipment, inventory, and expansion. It is the financing arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce.
The Smokestack loan was a referral from the Center for Women & Enterprise in Westborough. The owners of Smokestack Roasters worked with Fitchburg nonprofit NewVue Communities on the business plan and projections.
