While the number of foreclosures initiated by lenders in the month of June decreased year-over-year, the number of completed foreclosures more than doubled.
A total of 1,313 foreclosure deeds were filed in the Bay State in June 2010, according to The Warren Group, the Boston-based publisher of Banker & Tradesman. That's more than double the 628 deeds filed in June 2009.
Meanwhile, there was a slowing in foreclosure petition filings, which is the first step in the foreclosure process. There were 2,220 petitions submitted by lenders in June, down 21.7 percent from the 2,835 petitions that were filed a year earlier.
The number of auction announcements also rose in June, up 64.8 percent to 2,558.
