Two Central Massachusetts life sciences companies have landed more than $3.8 million of $20 million in state tax incentives to help create more jobs for the industry.
Gov. Charlie Baker announced the awards Tuesday at the BIO 2018 International Convention in Boston.
The largest award -- $3.7 million -- went to Billerica-based Insulet, which is building a $100 million, 350,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Acton.
The company plans to hire hundreds of new workers for the facility, which is expected to open at the 26-acre site in 2019.
Another $150,000 is slated for Marlborough-based Astellas Institute for Regenerative Medicine, which is planning a move to the Westborough Technology Park.
The company is planning to invest $80 million to convert an office building in the park to a pharmaceutical research and development facility, the Westborough Economic Development Committee said in a December press release.
Between 200 and 300 workers will be employed at the new location, the WEDC said.
The awards, approved by the board of directors of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, come during the convention and as the Baker Administration looks to pass a bill to award up to $500 million over five years for strategic investments in public infrastructure, research and development, workforce training and education for the industry.
