Framingham-based renewable energy firm Ameresco has completed a 947.7-kilowatt solar facility in a rural Connecticut town.
The 2,900-panel system built in Bethel, Conn. can generate more than 1.2 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year, and is connected directly into the local utility distribution system.Â
The facility, which was unveiled last week, is expected to help eliminate 934 metric tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent of taking 200 cars off the road and annual electricity usage of 140 homes.
The facility was installed on a capped landfill owned by the town. Ameresco will operate and maintain the system for the duration of a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Shares of the company’s stock have been trading around the $12 mark since late March, and opened at $12.10 on Tuesday.
