Initial Unemployment Claims Fall

Initial unemployment claims fell by 29,000 nationwide during the week ending July 10 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Labor Department.

The total number of claims, on a seasonally adjusted basis, was 429,000. The four-week moving average was 455,250, which represented a drop of 11,750 from the previous week.

In unadjusted terms, initial claims totaled 513,347 for the week, up 44,855 from the previous week. During the comparable week in 2009, there were 671,242 initial claims.
