Marlborough medical device manufacturer Hologic Inc. partnered with the Women’s Tennis Association to further the company’s focus on women’s wellness and equality.
The multi-year partnership kicks off first onsite activities at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif., according to a Wednesday press release. The event is an opportunity for Hologic to utilize its Horizon DXA system in a real world environment as the tennis players will have their bone density and body composition analyzed by the device.
The WTA made high-profile international news in December when it suspended all its tournaments in China, after Chinese government officials appeared to silence and censor Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai after she made a sexual assault allegation against a high-ranking member of the government.
Through the partnership with Hologic, the WTA is committed to increase its frequency of preventive healthcare screenings to empower the organizations’ joint mission of championing women and making their health a top priority, according to Hologic.
“We are excited to welcome the Hologic team and its leading medical technology to the WTA’s players health and wellness experience. This is just the beginning of what we can achieve through this innovative partnership,” said Kathleen Stroia, senior vice president of sport sciences, medicine, and transitions at the WTA, in a press release.
