Franklin medical-device manufacturer Tegra Medical is expanding its Costa Rican manufacturing operations with the purchase of a new 85,000-square-foot building in CF Free Zone in La Aurora de Heredia.
“The new building and subsequent remodeling are part of a $13-million investment in our Costa Rica operations, qualifying it as a mega-project in the Costa Rican free zone system,” Sean Mikus, general manager of Tegra Medical in Costa Rica, said in a Tuesday press release.
The new facility will be used to consolidate its metals manufacturing operations, allowing it to expand clean room molding and assembly operations in its nearby locations.
When complete, the facility will be the largest of three the company has in Costa Rica, totalling 135,000 square feet.
Costa Rica has successfully courted many large medical manufacturing companies with its free trade zones, including Marlborough’s Boston Scientific and Hologic.
Tegra Medical is a member of Swiss manufacturing giant SFS Group.
