A subsidiary of Marlborough medical device firm Hologic has landed the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights of a Pennsylvania medical equipment manufacturer’s nitrous oxide and oxygen systems.
Hologic’s subsidiary, Cynosure, is now the first medical aesthetic manufacturer to offer those systems to customers, Hologic said.
The system from Porter Instrument, Nitronox, is a fast-acting, self-administered nitrous oxide and oxygen inhaled delivery system to help patients manage discomfort and anxiety while remaining alert and conscious during aesthetic procedures. Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas for the pleasurable feeling it emits.
The Nitronox devices have developed a reputation for use in labor and delivery and other outpatient medical settings.
Hologic expects the device will be used to complement hair removal, tattoo removal, body contouring and skin revitalization procedures.
