MassLive Media Group, the Springfield-based news and media company, is relocating its Worcester office to Venture X coworking space at Mercantile Center.

The firm’s relocation to 100 Front St. comes just under seven years since MassLive opened its first Worcester office at 10 Mechanic St., following its prior use of shared office space on Prescott Street.

MassLive had occupied 3,825 square feet of space at 10 Mechanic St., a building which also serves as the Central Massachusetts location for the state’s Office of the Attorney General, according to CoStar property records.

“Venture X offers us a prime location for our newsroom and advertising operation,” Joshua Macht, president of the MassLive Media Group, said in a Monday press release from Franklin Realty Advisors, the Wellesley-based owner of Mercantile Center. “We’re growing to serve more and more communities in Central Mass. with the news and sports information they need, and having flexible workspace in the heart of Worcester is hugely important to our plans.”

Tim Kennedy, then-president of MassLive Media, told WBJ in 2018 opening a Worcester office was an effort by the brand to be a part of the local community and the growth happening in the city’s downtown area.

MassLive is affiliated with The Republican, a Springfield-based newspaper founded in 1824. The website represented one of the earlier attempts of a digital-only news publication in the state, with a heavy focus on youth sports in its early years, according to an article from NiemanReports.

The MassLive brand is owned by Advance Local Media, a New Jersey-based firm which operates outlets in more than 20 U.S. cities, according to its LinkedIn page.

Venture X opened its 15,000-square-foot coworking space on the fourth floor of Mercantile Center in February 2024.

Eric Casey is the managing editor at Worcester Business Journal, who primarily covers the manufacturing and real estate industries.
