The average price for a gallon of gasoline fell yet again in Central Massachusetts in the past week, according to the latest survey by gasoline price web site GasBuddy.com.
The average price in the Worcester area fell nearly a dime – 9.5 cents – over the past week, to $2.37 per gallon. That was deeper than the national drop of 7.7 cents. The national average price is lower, though, at $2.19.
The average price in the Worcester area is now down about $1.12 per gallon over the last year, meaning that a 15-gallon fill-up today, based on the average price, costs $35.55, down from $52.35 a year ago. Over the last month, the average price has fallen 44.3 cents while the national average has plunged 52.8 cents, according to GasBuddy.
GasBuddy predicts prices will be even better for motorists in 2015 than in 2014.
“As we've welcomed in the new year, gas prices have stayed at their bargain basement levels in most states, with just a few seeing minor gas tax increases,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, in a statement. In 2015, he said, “motorists will fare substantially better, shelling out $96 billion less this year at the gas pump with motorists in most states seeing far more $2 gas than $3 gas."
