Fleeing top attorneys no sweat for firms

Lawyers responding to a Robert Half Legal survey said company mentoring programs are most effective for retaining employees, but also said they don't really care about losing their best people.

According to Robert Half, an international staffing agency, the hiring environment in the legal field is highly competitive, but 42 percent of respondents said they are not concerned with losing top employees and 43 percent said they were only somewhat concerned.

Robert Half said law offices don't worry about employee retention until they start losing people, and while the financial sting of replacing top lawyers may hurt, the loss of "institutional knowledge" can hurt even more.
