Twelve officers graduated from the new extended format police academy program offered by Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.
The program runs for nine months, offering classes at night and on the weekend, allowing greater access to recruits who may not be able to attend classes during regular working hours. The program runs for approximately nine months, during which three 40-hour weeks are set aside for off-site training.
All 12 graduates have been hired to full-time police officer positions, according to a Thursday press release.
“We, the new generation of police officers, it’s our responsibility to change that public perception, working with the community, and being part of the community. This started here. Since our first training, our Academy has been involved in various community projects such as the QCC HomePlate Food Pantry and Resource Center,” said class president, Officer Leon Muraguri.
The Academy is authorized by the Municipal Police Training Committee, under the direction of Chief Ritacco and Academy Deputy Director, Captain Joseph Cecchi.
